Dr. Riley Smith sees the world in colors only she can perceive, a gift that makes her fire prediction models devastatingly accurate. But her research on preventing firefighter casualties hits too close to home for hotshot superintendent Jake Sullivan, and now she's being forced into the field to prove her system works alongside the crew she unknowingly hurt.

Jake Sullivan has spent three years building walls after a wildfire took two of his men. The last thing he needs is an awkward scientist who thinks computers can replace instinct, especially one whose research picked apart his most painful loss without ever knowing his name.

But when Riley's models start saving lives, they discover that data and experience aren't opposites, they're partners. As Montana's wildfires rage and the tension between them reaches its own flashpoint, Riley and Jake must learn to trust each other with more than just their lives.
